Scripture: Finally, believers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable and worthy of respect, whatever is right and confirmed by God’s word, whatever is pure and wholesome, whatever is lovely and brings peace, whatever is admirable and of good repute; if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think continually on these things [center your mind on them, and implant them in your heart]. Philippians 4:8 (AMP).

Reflection: The planner I have been using for the last several years has a space on the weekly layout for “Good things that happened this week.” I find I really like that. Writing things down and having them visible helps me remember them. No matter the size or impact, whether large things like gatherings with family or friends or small things like a beautiful sunny day after a rainy week, I find that the simple act of journaling helps me appreciate my blessings. And looking back on the week or the month, the first thing I see are the good things that happened
Why is it so easy to remember the bad things, the problems, the worries? Somehow I never have to consciously bring them to mind! I worry, stress, fret, and continuously review things in my mind – all of which make me feel worse… and do nothing to help the situation. Slowly, I have begun to see the wisdom of looking for the good, the things that bring peace, the rays of light to focus on, the things that lead me back to God.
Prayer: O Father, how soon I forget the blessings you have given me! How easily I overlook the daily blessings you scatter in my path! Help me to keep my eyes on you in the midst of the everyday, to be grounded in your love and the peace you bring into my life. Amen!
