Scripture: Father, if you are willing, please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done. not mine. Luke 22:42 NLT.
Source of Inspiration: When We Pray Like Jesus by Elisa Morgan.
Reflect: Luke 22:42 shows us that we are not the only ones who beseech God to remove the suffering from our lives. Even Jesus asked the Father to take the cup of suffering away, but Jesus had such a close relationship to the Father that he trusted Him for the best. Our Savior’s totally surrendered life was possible, because he knew the Father’s perfect love that casts out all fear.
Jesus’s prayer reminds me of God’s promise in Jeremiah 29:11that His plans are for our good, no matter how the future appears. When the landscape of life looks bleak, leading us on a path not of our choosing, we can rest in the confidence that our Father knows best. As Moses wrote, “Lord, You have been our dwelling place [our refuge, our sanctuary, our stability] in all generations.” (Psalm 90:1, AMP) When we feel lost, that our hope is ruined and the road ahead looks too difficult, God is completing His masterpiece to His glory. His grace keeps pace with what we face. This is true throughout all of life, throughout generations.
Pray: Father, I release my anxious thoughts about the future to You. I trust that You work everything together for good according to Your loving plan. I surrender my life as a single brush stroke in Your grand masterpiece. Amen.
