Artist: Barbara Bonnell.
Medium: Watercolor.
Scripture: “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you, not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled neither let it be afraid.” John 14:27 KJV.
Source of Inspiration: Gracelaced by Ruth Chou Simons.
Reflect: This painting depicts friends buying flowers. It portrays the pleasure many people experience when planting their wonderful, summer gardens.
A garden provides a location filled with serenity and beauty, a place that bestows deep peace to the soul. But even a garden filled with the most beautiful flowers—or even the most gorgeous scene imaginable—although it might give us a sense of well-being and temporary peace, is not able to give lasting peace to our hearts. As Ruth Chou Simons says on page 197 in her book, Gracelaced: “Not even the loveliest vistas can sustain the peace we need…” She goes on to say only Christ is able to give sustainable peace to our heart. What a great blessing and comfort it is to know that in our life journey, as we trust in Christ and not in ourselves, the peace Christ gives to our heart can never be taken away!
Pray: Lord we thank you for giving us peace in our heart, not as the world gives, but as you give. We thank and praise you for your merciful love and goodness towards us. Amen.
