Scripture: “And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work.” KJV 2 Corinthians 9: 8.
Source of Inspiration: Amazing Grace by Kenneth W. Osbeck/Hymn: “Amazing Grace”
Reflect: I wanted to come up with a theme centered around the hymn called “Amazing Grace” and John Newton, the author. John Newton who called himself a “wretch” was a slave trader who in 1748 nearly died in a violent storm. Awe struck in fear, he fell to his knees and begged God for mercy. Having had a genuine conversion to Christianity, Newton became an ordained minister and wrote the hymn “Amazing Grace.”
As I was researching ideas for a painting, I found a video about this very event. During the video, I caught a glimpse of photographs crossfading as praying hands emerged from a storm scene. The image of the hands and the storm scene blended together inspired me to depict a ship being tossed in an violent storm along with praying hands. Someday, I hope to complete a painting similar to the original photograph I captured. Shortly before his death in 1807 John Newton exclamed, “I a great sinner and Christ a great Savior!”.
Pray: Heavenly Father, thank you for this group of artists who have been inspired by you to create and are using their God given gifts to honor you. Help us serve you better through creativity to inspire more people with the Gospel message. Thank you for revealing a fresh vision and inspiring us to create works that are pleasing to you. We place it all into your hands in the name of our great Savior and Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
