The birth of Christ is like none other in history, for God, Himself, gave His only Son. How can we remember this extraordinary and holy event without over-cluttering our minds and schedules?

Reflection: Christmas is a beautiful time of year; carolers sing out, and joy is in the air when we remember the birth of Christ. Even though snow has nothing to do with the birth of Christ, many people associate it with the Christmas season. Living in a four-season climate, I enjoy seeing fresh, new snow with the sun shining on it. It demonstrates a covering and a sparkling light, reminding me of Christ. When Jesus was transfigured on the mountain top, Mark 9:3 (EHV) says that His garment was dazzling white, shining “whiter than anyone on earth could bleach them.”
In my art on a backdrop of snow with her mother and father, a little girl joyfully rings a bell. She is announcing and calling attention to the “good news” that Jesus Christ is born!
InThe Uncluttered Heart , Beth Richardson encourages us to remember this extraordinary and holy event without over-cluttering our minds with the many associated, traditional activities. But how do we do that? So much can fill our minds! The festivities of special programs and concerts, gift buying, decorating, cooking and baking special foods, and family and friend get-togethers are very enjoyable. We look forward to these annual events that provide so many cherished memories, and they can point the way to Christ. But they can also take precedence over our thoughts and focus on and worship of Christ.
The birth of Christ is like none other in history, for God, Himself, gave His only Son, the Light of the World Who brings salvation and eternal life to all who believe. Colossians 1:12-14 (KJ21) says: “Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light. Who has delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son.” May we prioritize and allow quiet reflection and worship of Christ to fill our minds and hearts in our Christmas season.
Prayer: Lord, quiet our minds, take away the distractions that clutter our thoughts. May Your Holy Spirit fill our hearts as we think upon Your birth, and this great and wondrous gift of salvation that provides eternal life to all people throughout the world. Amen.
