Artist: Luke S., Concordia Academy, Roseville, MN, Grade 12.
Title: “Be Still”
Medium: Acrylic Paint
Scripture: Psalm 46:10 NIV “Be still, and know that I am God.”
Faith Statement: I titled this piece “Be Still,” being inspired by Psalm 46:10 as well as Psalm 4:1, which states, “Give me relief from my distress,” and Psalm 4:8, “…for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in your safety.” These verses have made a big impact on my life and have played a major role in the creation of this art piece.
I wanted my landscape to show that it is possible to seek God in a distracted world from a different approach. Scripture says that when we pray, we should pray to our Father in a secret/secluded place (Matt. 6:6). For me, this place is in nature. Hiking down old trails up in Duluth, climbing hills in plains, spending the night under the stars…all of these have helped me to see God more. Romans 12:2 says, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” Being in nature helps me to remove myself from all distractions and focus on God and the renewing of my mind. Creating this art has helped to remind me of the ways God has impacted my life by being in nature, and it has helped me grow closer to God.
