Title: “Transformed”
Media: Mixed
Scripture: Romans 12:2 NIV “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and just.”
Faith Statement: Romans 12:2 is a call to action with a means of fulfilling that call in an incredible way. My piece represents the transforming and reworking of our minds by the Holy Spirit through prayer and meditation on the Scriptures. The outer areas of the drawing are meant to be colorless, as the glasslike shards represent the godless actions and distractions of our shattered world. The Bible in the center of the page and the individual sitting upon it in prayer are brightly colored in prismacolor pencils and markers. In my artwork, color represents the presence and influence of God. The Bible, the Word of God, is the backdrop as a firm foundation in a world prone to falling apart. Some color spreads out into the cracks, showing God is present in every distraction of every moment but is more powerful. Producing this work led me to visualize concepts I haven’t examined this closely before. It helped me to reinforce what I had known previously about prayer and also apply them in a more personal way.
