For hundreds of years no one had access to the Glory of God except the High Priest of Israel who entered the Holy of Holies with trepidation once a year. A three-inch thick veil stood between him and the Holy of Holies. This symbolized the huge chasm between God and all of humankind, not just Israel. But Jesus changed all that.
By John Bennett, based on Matthew 27:50-51, “And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice and yielded up his spirit. And behold, the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom.” Also based on Hebrews 10:19-22, “Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh, and having a High Priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.”

Reflection: Before Jesus drew his last breath on the cross, He cried out in a loud voice, “It is finished.” Overcoming ALL sin by His atonement or payment, He became the final sacrifice for sin. After that a great earthquake shook the temple, and the Veil was torn from top to bottom revealing the Holiest of Holies within. When Jesus willingly submitted his flesh to be torn for us, He opened up the veil through His own body and became our High Priest. No one comes to the Father except through Him. We now have direct access to the Holiest of Holies through the gift the Holy Spirt within us. Truly, we became temples where our Holy God resides. When we receive God’s gift of grace and choose to follow Jesus, our lives become a living sacrifice, meant to bring glory to God. We are washed clean and given access to the presence of God in Heaven in the Holiest of Holies. Glory to God!
Prayer: Dear Lord, We all have sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God, but You became the sacrifice for our sins and made a way for us to come boldly before You. Thank You so much for removing the barriers between us so that we can have direct access to You and live better lives. We worship You in the highest and give You all praise, honor and glory. Blessed are you God. Through Jesus our Great Savior and Lord we pray. Amen.
