In spring, even though I anticipate birds building and filling their nests with eggs, I still sense wonder and awe when I see the babies for the first time. I love to watch perfect, tiny beeks appear over the nest’s edge, followed by little heads as small wing flutterings mimic that of their parents.
By Debbie Gustafson based on Psalm 65:8 and Discovering God Through the Arts by Terry Glaspey.
Scripture: Psalm 65:8 “The whole earth is filled with all of your wonders; where morning dawns, where evening fades, you call forth songs of joy. “
When I contemplate new life, I pause and appreciate God’s handiwork and design. I feel privileged that God draws me in for such brief but beautiful glimpses of wonder.
Author Terry Glaspey writes, “Wonder is a way of talking about our response both to the mystery of life and to our experience of God in the context of his creation. Wonder is that which takes our breath away.“ Discovering God Through the Arts
In my painting, three little wonders exemplify the mystery of life. Such wonder draws me in and takes my breath away, but God also uses it to re-focus my heart on things beyond the fast pace of everyday life.
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, I thank you for the world You’ve created with so much wonder in it. Please draw me aside so that I might see the details and the beauty You have placed in this world. Help me recognize the uniqueness of your handiwork and be grateful for the many details of your creation.
