Scripture: “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” 2 Corinthians 5:17-21 NIV
Source of Inspiration: Gracelaced by Ruth Chou Simons.
Reflect: My painting shows the structure of the wooden cross becoming clear (note how the wood grain disappears as it moves towards the center) allowing an unrestricted view from one side of the cross to the other. The work of Jesus on the cross opens the way for me to be in the presence of God and and live life according to His plan and design for my life and to fellowship with Him.
God calls each of us to come to this place.
The hand in the painting represents how we follow through on God’s forgiveness, plan and design for my life. As in the life of Ruth Chou Simons author of the book Gracelaced, I desire to design and use art and creativity to show God’s love.
The roses in the center of the cross are significant, because I love the imagery of roses and often choose to paint them. I agree with Simons who reminds us in Gracelaced that we should never let the thorns of a rose obscure its beauty or the thorns of life obscure the beauty of God’s design for our lives.
Pray: Thank you, Lord, for positioning me in your love through Jesus’s love and forgiveness. What a privilege it is to access such amazing gifts by His sacrificial death for my sin on the cross!
Finding myself in the midst of your love and forgiveness, I now ask You to guide me to use my gifts and abilities to glorify your name and bring others to the forgiveness you offer.
Lord, I thank you that when I look at life, although I can see the thorns, pain and anguish, I can still see the beauty You have placed in my life and in the world.
Help me and others use our minds and skills to know you more fully and express your love more completely. Amen.
