Scripture: “You shall be a crown of beauty in the hand of the Lord, and a royal diadem in the hand of your God. You shall no more be termed Forsaken, and your land shall no more be termed Desolate, but you shall be called My Delight is in Her, and your land Married; for the Lord delights in you . . .” Isaiah 62:3-4 ESV
Source of Inspiration: Gracelaced by Ruth Chou Simons
Reflect: The book Gracelaced by Ruth Chou Simons has many passages that speak to many seasons in our lives. Right now, the chapter on “Delight” leapt out to me. I thought about the idea that God would delight in me… and does that mean that I could take delight as well?
I have certainly had times when my life felt desolate, when I felt forsaken – I’m sure we all have. Even Jesus went through that time – dying on the cross, forsaken even by God. But God doesn’t leave us in that place. He reaches out to draw us out into His life, comfort and joy. The challenge for us is to accept and respond, to lift our eyes from our own pain or discouragement and see the gift He has for us, and to delight in the small tokens of His love as He leads us back into the light.
Pray: Oh Father, you know the pain of a broken heart, the sting of rejection, the empty loneliness. You took on all of that willingly – all to win me back. Lead me into the life you have for me. Teach me to delight in the gifts you have for me, to give abundantly to others, and to join in the dance with you.
Let me say with the Psalmist: “So my heart is glad, my glory rejoices, and my body too rests in safety; for you will not abandon me to Sh’ol. You will not let your faithful one see the Abyss. You make me know the path of life. In your presence is unbounded joy, in your right hand eternal delight.” Psalm 16: 9-11 CJB
