Title; The Word Became Flesh.
Artist: John Bennett.
Medium: Acrylic on canvas.
Scripture: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through Him all things were made, and without Him nothing was made that has been made. In Him was life, and that life was the light of men. The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” John 1:1-5 NIV
Inspired by: The Uncluttered Heart by Beth A. Richardson.
Reflect: How awesome to think that little baby with humble beginnings was with God in the beginning of creation and that through Him all things were made! God the Father sent Jesus here for many reasons, but the main reason was to provide a Lamb to cover our sins and make it possible to be redeemed and be with Him in Heaven forever. All He asks each one of us is to accept what Jesus did for us on the cross, confess our shortcomings, and invite Jesus into our hearts.
My initial thought was to include the cross in various parts of the painting asking the question; Did Jesus embrace His purpose even in His most innocent beginning? Why did the Baby leap in Elizabeth’s womb when the pregnant Mary came near? Do babies sense these things through the Holy Spirit? My aim was to provoke deeper thoughts about the Birth of Jesus.
Pray: Thank you God for sending Jesus to us, for loving us so much that you wouldn’t want even one of us to perish into eternal darkness. But you gave us a brilliant light to follow, to show us how to live in a sinful world, setting an example for us to follow. You provided a way out through Your Son Jesus who paid the ultimate sacrifice. So thank You Lord; we are eternally grateful to You for Your Love for us. In the great name of our Lord and Savior Jesus, Amen.
