Title: “Woman with Bouquet in the Setting Sun.”
Artist: Barbara Bonnell.
Media: Watercolor/Acrylic.
Scripture: Genesis 1:3-5 ASV “And God said, ‘Let there be light’: and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and morning were the first day.”
Source of Inspiration: Heaven and Nature Sing by Sharon Brodin.
Reflection: God’s creation in nature provides us with stunning scenes. We see sunlight streaming upon trees and landscapes and shadows settling upon flowers, enhancing their beauty. When evening approaches, night is dark, but greater light reveals God’s remarkable creation, which is so great, varied, and impressive that no words can adequately describe it.
This painting reminds me of the changing view we see when the sun is setting. When day or evening appears, shifting lights display breath-taking beauty upon earth and sky. God displays truly spectacular and dramatic landscapes that put smiles on our faces and lift our spirits.
The woman in this painting holds a bouquet of flowers. One of the wonderful gifts of nature God has given us, flowers exude a vast variety and palette of colors that provide delight, wonder, and a feast for our eyes. Sometimes even a mere glimpse of creation draws our attention to the One Who is the Light of the World and made it all.
Living on our earth, the darkness of night offers time for physical rest, while the light of day, including sunrise and sunset, provides time to behold the astonishing work of God and His creation. What a great God we worship! He spoke the words, “Let there be light,” and it was done.
Through creation, God shows us His power, and He also shows us His mercy, grace and love by giving us “light” in a different sense. He sent His Son, Jesus, the light of the world, to earth. John 8:12 says: “Then spoke Jesus again unto them, ‘I am the light of the world: he that follows me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.'” God reveals His great love by protecting us from walking about aimlessly as in the dark without His support or hope. Rather, when we abide in the Lord Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit illumines our path and walks with us.
Pray: God, our Father, we thank you for creating the earth and for giving us life. We praise you not only for the wonder of light that is called Day but also for the indwelling light of Your Holy Spirit that leads us to daily and faithfully follow Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. May our hearts overflow with gratitude for the “light” Christ provides to us! Amen.
