While visiting Lake Superior, I noticed how determined trees must be to sprout between the rocky cliffs along rivers emptying into Lake Superior. The tree roots reach downward toward the invisible water source and reach upward for brief exposures to the midday sun. Eventually, the most tenacious sprouts become tall trees
Similarly, during a Wisconsin trip, I discovered a dry, old tree trunk. Looking upwards, I was startled to see a large branch with healthy leaves attached. How could that be? Apparently, in spite of age and blight, a healthy part of the tree hid within the trunk all the way to a viable root system.
I can’t help but admire the tenacity of trees. Just as God supplies the ability for trees to grow despite odds, He enables us to press on, not merely to survive, but to thrive. But sometimes, rather than pressing on to victory, we resort to our own ideas of how to get out of a tough spot even though God gives us everything we need to grow strong and fruitful. The apostle Peter tells us God supplies us with His tenacious power to give us “everything we need for a godly life.” What a gift!
Pray: Father, thank You that You have put within me the DNA of Your Holy Spirit Who empowers me despite of impossible odds. I am always and continuously strenghthened while safely positioned in Your hands. I lean on You for Your wisdom, strength and grace so that I become all that You designed me to be.
