Just as Joshua trusted God to lead him through unknown terrain in the promised land, God keeps His promised towards us and leads us through every path of our lives.
By Cheryl Barr, based on the book of Joshua, specifically Joshua 1:9 (AMP): Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not be terrified or dismayed (intimidated), for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.
Bible Story Focus – Joshua: The story of Joshua in Scripture reveals how God cares about each one of us and sovereignly leads us into a future He has lovingly planned. As I painted our son Joshua leading his small son on a mountain path, I found comfort in those promises and took courage for the unknown terrain ahead of me in my own life.
Reflection: Leisurely paddling a canoe around our favorite Northwoods lake, my husband and I pondered the future name of the baby in my womb. We were venturing into the unknown waters of parenthood and praying for His guidance. After a few minutes to listen to the Holy Spirit, we shared our impressions with each other and settled on the name, “Joshua.”
Now our son Joshua is a father of eight and his tribe continues to grow. Four children are married, resulting in seven grandchildren as of today. Often I reflect on how we got the name Joshua for him. He and his wife are raising a generation that brings hope to a dark world. They have chosen the way of Joshua 24:15, “…But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”
Our loving heavenly Father has a plan for each of our lives from womb to old age. He reveals it step by step, promising joy in the process. “You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.” (Psalm 16:11) “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” (Psalm 119:105)
Prayer: Lord, forgive me for times of weakening under doubt and fear. I lean upon You and trust You to guide my husband and me as we seek Your will for our next steps. Thank You that You never leave or forsake us. In Jesus’ precious name, Amen.
