Peter fell to his knees. He had fished all night to no avail. But in an instant with one command, Jesus changed everything.
By Debbie Gustafson, based on Luke 5:8-9 (NLT); When Simon Peter realized what had happened, he fell to his knees before Jesus and said, “Oh, Lord, please leave me—I’m such a sinful man.” For he was awestruck by the number of fish they had caught, as were the others with him.
Medium: Watercolor
Reflection: My painting is of Peter at a moment when he recognizes the GLORY of God. This was a precious moment in the life of the muscular, self- directed, hard-working Peter. Peter had heard Jesus speak, he had seen Jesus’ miracles, but on this day, he recognized Jesus in a way he had not recognized him before. That day Jesus intervened in Peter’s life with a huge provision for a need in Peter’s everyday world. Peter saw himself as a sinner and Jesus as His Lord.
Prayer: Precious Lord, thank you for your Word telling of this moment in Peter’s life. Just as the “curtain” of the everyday was pulled back allowing Peter to see Your glory, may we have spiritual eyes that are opened to see Your glory as you provide in our daily life and draw us to Yourself. Please give us a deep awareness of how unworthy we are of your presence in our lives. May we be brought to our knees, as Peter was, in knowing Who You are and who we are. Amen.
